Only One Tent
(Wrote a prompt fill for a monthly challenge on Discord in July. Still a bit iffy on it, so decided to post it here instead of AO3. Enjoy!)
There was no reprieve. Awake or asleep, Dimitri was haunted. Dedue had long since given up on encouraging him to retire early, as there was no difference to his exhaustion whether he slept two hours or twelves. Perhaps for the best that Dedue stopped, as war would have taken away whatever luxury sleep gave to someone who wasn’t him.
“You talk in your sleep. Did you know that?”
A woman’s voice cut through his thoughts. Sitting up on his bedroll, he spotted one of the army’s newest recruits in his tent.
The Ashen Demon.
No, Byleth Eisner.
“Is every night like that for you?”
The nightmares? The low chanting that quickly turns to screaming? The thrashing that requires him to rely on his crest for any energy to make it through the day? “Yes.”
“I see.”
He wondered if he had bothered her last night. No doubt he did. “Byleth…”
“We don’t have to talk about it.” She moved to the flap of the tent. “I’ll leave you to get ready. We still have half a day’s journey before we reach that stronghold. It’s best to set off sooner rather than later.” Without giving him a chance to reply, she left.
Dimitri continued to sit in his bedroll, hazy memories of the night before slowly coming to him. He must have woken up at some point in the night, maybe multiple times. He remembered Byleth sitting next to him.
She held him.
She spoke softly to him.
“You’re safe, Dimitri.”
He felt himself blush. There was no doubt about it. Byleth definitely did not want to be around him after that. And he couldn’t blame her, he hates having to live with himself, too.
Sighing, he got up and began to get ready for the day’s travels.
*
“ I believe that was unnecessarily distant. ”
It was, Byleth had to admit. She had been working hard on remaining aware of how people would take her responses, wishing to avoid her moniker of “Demon.”
She didn’t even know where to begin on the “Ashen” part…
But that last attempt, where she tried to talk to Dimitri after he woke up, went terribly. He clearly regretted telling her about everything. She had to end it before he had the chance to address last night’s situation.
In her head, Sothis yawned. “ If that is truly what you believe, then continue on. But you should at least try to talk to him, lest he get some strange notions about your actions towards him compared to how you spoke to him. ”
Well, she had half a day’s journey to talk to him.

Huntober 2024
This idea came up in conversation on one of the Monster of the Week discord servers and I worked this up and have started to do it.
I'll include links to the individual entries below as I go.
My general rules for myself:
I'm making Hero Forge minis ahead of time while thinking of general themes.
I'm doing a mystery and a hunter for whom that mystery could have been an origin story.
I'm taking about an hour to do the hunter and mystery, which means the mystery is bare bones and will often lack mechanics. I'm focusing on cast descriptions and Countdown.
Monster of the Week News
Yes I made the title there a link!
The game has two new supplements on the way and I'm a co-author on both of them. These books both focus on Hunters providing hunter-centric arcs, new hunter and teams playbooks, and advice on gameplay and homebrewing.
The Entries:
1: Nightmares
2: Schools (CW: Suicide)
3: Darkness
4: Cheer (CW: School killings, police brutality, mental illness)
5: Nature
6: City
7: Redemption
8: Transformation (CW: Religious Trauma)
9: Itchy (CW: Body Horror)
10: Bugs
11: Magic (very bare bones, more of a seed than a draft)
12: Science
13: Stars
14: Courage
15: Luck
16: Rural
17: Spirits
18: Storm (CW: Bigotry)

Ride The Cyclone Knock Knock AU:
(Click for better quality)
The Choir finally moved out of Uranium! Unfortunately, the cheapest university they could find didn't have dorms. Trying to find a house to fit six people (plus with wheelchair access) is harder than you'd think. By an insane stroke of luck, Ocean receives a phone call from an old man named Ezra Lamb, who was happy to let them stay in his huge mansion for cheap.
While staying there, they soon discover a myriad of mysteries and abnormalities. A series of strange noises, gradual disappearances, a wooden girl named Penny who Mr Lamb claims to be his daughter, and a whole lot of rats.
(Disclaimer: I have no clue how University and College work over here, let alone in Canada, so this probably isn't accurate, but the Uni stuff isn't that important in this AU)
Ocean O'Connell Rosenberg:
. She / Her
. Maths major (She's currently having a breakdown and doesn't know what to do with her life ❤️)
. Burnt out gifted kid - probably needs therapy
. Less of an outright bitch now, but sometimes still says the wrong thing by accident.
. Actually Constance's best friend
Noel Gruber:
. He / Him
. Studying English Literature (until he can move to a Uni that specialises in Performing Arts)
. He sometimes talks about Monique with Savannah, who in return talks (through a text to speech device, or he sometimes writes it down if she needs to do a diagram) about her Alien cat OCs.
Mischa Bachinski:
. He / Him
. Studying English Literature with Noel (So Noel can take his notes)
. He still does music on his YouTube channel
. He barely ever goes to class, since he's too busy working to get enough money to travel to Ukraine and meet Talia. Noel takes notes for him.
Ricky / Savannah Potts:
. She / He
. Studying Graphic Design (She finds it slightly boring, but it was the only remotely creative subject this Uni does)
. He goes equally by Ricky and Savannah, Ocean and Mischa mainly use Ricky, Noel and Constance mainly use Savannah
Constance Blackwood:
. She / Her
. Studying English with a minor in Botany
. Constance is the only student who calls Penny by her name, rather than Jane Doe
Penny Lamb / Jane Doe:
. ??? / ??? (Everyone uses She / Her - except for Ocean, who sometimes says It)
. She's been in the house for so long she's forgotten her own name, so most of the others call her Jane Doe
. Her wooden limbs mean she is mainly bedridden, and can hardly walk, mostly relying on Ezra or the rats to bring her food
Ezra Lamb:
. He / Him
. He plays the role of the landlord (minus being played by Hercule Poirot)
. Claims Penny is his daughter, of course, she's actually his sister
. He sometimes just… stares at people. No one knows what that's about
Virgil:
(I had to cut his drawing out to put the lineup at the top rip)
. He / Him
. One of Penny's rats. He's been around the longest, so he's her favourite
Karnak:
(Design inspired by @timegays 's human Karnak)
. He / Him
. A nearby shopkeeper and amateur fortune teller who's obsessed with the paranormal
. His corner shop is called "The Amazing Karnak's"
. He informs the students of the significance of the legends surrounding the house, specifically to do with the rats
Penny Lamb:
. She / It (Turns out Ocean was right)
When she was only 16 years old, Penny grew very, very ill. As orphans, Penny, and its little brother Ezra had nowhere to turn after running away from St Cassian Boarding School. Fortunately, they found an abandoned manor house, where Penny rested until she would get better.
She didn't get better.
Due to the siblings' distrust of modern medicine, Ezra refused to seek a doctor for his sister, besides, he knew they'd be sent back to St Cassian's. Instead, he looked after Penny, and became its soul caretaker.
One day, whilst he was playing in the garden, he found a rat with luminescent red eyes. Excited, he showed his sibling the find, and named the rodent Virgil.
Over time, Virgil and Penny became inseparable, and when the latter's limbs started turning to wood… well, Ezra was just happy he could take care of his sister daughter… forever.
Ships:
Probably none will be canon to this AU. I might keep Ocean's crush on Ricky and Noel's crush on Mischa, and maybe if my finger slips I'll add Sugarsheep… we'll see how it turns out.

Here's another list that will get updated throughout the month of June Doe. With these, the title, rating, pairing (if any), basic tags, and summary will be included. If a fic contains any content warnings, those will be included too. [SOME OF THESE WILL BE CROSS POSTED ONTO OTHER MASTERLISTS]
Adoration For a Doll: Rated G; SUGARDOLLS; Tooth-Rotting Fluff, Non-Sexual Intimacy; It was terrifying when Jane first asked Constance to brush her dolly’s hair… but then why was it so soothing to do?
What's Better than Being a Doll? Creating One!: Rated T; CONTENT WARNINGS: Hospitals, Major Character Death; The expansive life of one Penny Jane Lamb and The Amazing Karnak’s Wooden Emporium… through the eyes of an old woman, a nurse, and a scrapbook.
The Ocean Trap: Rated G; Fluff and Humor; “Wait. Who’s the victim?” He asked. Penny’s grin was downright evil. “Ocean.” Based on the mattress prank from ‘The Parent Trap.’
Everyone's a Bad Influence… Ocean Would Beg to Differ: Rated T; “I have an idea!” Constance settled next to Ocean excitedly. “What if we pair up and find a new outfit for each other? Like… what if they were things we normally wouldn’t wear, but the other person would? A switch-a-roo!”
The No Good, ALMOST Horrible Birthday (That Nothing Could Ruin): Rated T; CONTENT WARNINGS: Physical Assault, Injuries, Hospitals; Nothing could ruin Ricky’s birthday, but the world certainly likes to test him anyway.
Reputation, Reputation…: Rated T; DRABBLE; Cussing, Mentions of Blood; In which a little Lamb has some thoughts about her FAVORITE musician.
Pop Goes the Jane Doe: Rated G; CRACKFIC; What if Jane had a soft plastic doll head instead of a porcelain one?
Ma'am, This is a Taco Bell…: Rated T; CONTENT WARNINGS: Bullying and Homophobia; Five times Noel Gruber is faced with rude customers at Taco Bell, and the one time he didn’t.
Time Eats All HIS Children in the End: Rated T; DRABBLE; Time was not Father Marcus’ friend. It wasn’t his choir’s either.
Cats? What's the Point?: Rated G; DRABBLE; The choir goes over to Ricky’s for movie night. He chooses Cats: The Musical. Ocean is not a fan.
Elevator Tunes: Catchy, Right?: Rated T; Fluff and Humor; The choir surprises Noel at work, only to get stuck in the elevator on the way out. Chaos ensues.
Prophecies Don't Make Sense… Until They Actually Do: Rated T; Mystery; Karnak could only bring one back, so why were they all here? Everyone was accounted for, right? RIGHT?
Birthday: Rated G; Tooth-Rotting Fluff; “Hey, Jane? What do you want to name it?” Ricky murmured, looking over. “I can name it?” Jane asked. “Sure.” He nodded, smiling at her. “It likes you.”
The Very Opposite of Fun: Rated T; An onlooker with family-friendly mode helps no one. Karnak is stuck watching the accident happen.
Time to Huff Yankee Candles (Just... After a Few Setbacks): Rated M; CONTENT WARNINGS: Mentions of Sexual Assault, Mentions of Pregnancy; shopping trip with Ocean- that was all Constance wanted. Just a day to themselves… but it was never as simple as that. Not when a certain someone shows up.

“Mister Bontemps, you're back! And you've brought a friend! Would you like more gingerbread? Or a muffin?” - Ivy Noel
Biographical information
Full Name: Ivy Noel
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Lesbian
Status: Alive
Age: 16 (season 4)
Birth: 1874
Race: Human
Nationality: French-American
Origin: Concordia, USA
Residence: Concordia, USA
Past profession(s): Cookie Seller
Affiliation(s): Le Levain Roma Bakery
Profile
Height: 5’1” Age: 16 (season 4) Weight: 125lbs Eyes: green Blood: A-
While working in the bakery, Ivy keeps her brown hair pinned up into a bun and sometimes wears a scarf or hat to protect her hair. She wears a white barker’s shirt underneath a red apron and black trousers. Lastly, the dark teal scarf from her first appearance is wrapped around her neck.
As per her suspect appearance in Ring In The New Death, it is known that Ivy eats panettone.
Synopsis
Ivy is a baker and cookie seller for the famous Italian bakery Le Levain Roma. She briefly appears in Rowdy Rick's murder investigation when Argo and Issac question her about who bought gingerbread from her.
Later, on New Year's Eve, Ivy returned as a suspect in the murder of Romulus Fabbri after clues led Isaac and Maddie to her workplace. During her first interrogation, Ivy claimed not to know anything about the murder or Romulus but was shocked to hear the man was dead. She told the detectives that he had visited the bakery, and she served him cannolis with him leaving her a tip in return. She explained that he was charming and had promised to visit the bakery again, but unknown to Isaac and Maddie, Ivy was omitting some information from her statement.
Further into the investigation, Isaac and Maddie discover Ivy’s necklace in one of their crime scenes. When they questioned her about how it could have gotten there, Ivy admitted that Romulus had ripped the necklace off her neck and taken it after she refused to refund him. Ivy swore she hadn’t killed Romulus and planned to beg him to return the necklace after her shift. Luckily, it was proven that Ivy didn’t kill Romulus after the actual killer was arrested.
Ivy appeared one more time during that case’s additional investigation. When Maddie, Charlie and Jason visited the bakery, she fulfilled their request for some bomboloni. She gave them to the group for free as thanks for everything they had done and New Haven. Ivy invited them to come back and visit any time, and she would ensure treats would always be waiting for them!
Story Information
First appeared: A Murder Carol
Trivia
She is a canon character from Mysteries of The Past. She’s the cookie seller the player and Isaac met during A Murder Carol
I considered naming her Holly as I wanted a Christmas-themed name, but I associate that name with Holly Hopper, so I went with Ivy, from the song The Holly and The Ivy instead
Her surname, Noel, means Christmas in French
She loves cookies. Her favourite kinds are chocolate chip and gingerbread
Likewise, she always smells like freshly baked cookies

This is Ivy’s canon appearance in the game.

who taught them?
when liam referred to his and noel's childhood bedroom as "that's where the magic happened" in the documentary as it was (2019), he was, in all likelihood, referring to the inappropriate turn that his relationship with his brother obviously took at some point. according to peggy, noel moved in with louise when he was 22 (when liam was either 16 or 17, so a minor) so it logically follows that the incestuous behavior had to start before that. before moving in with louise, noel had been touring the states as a roadie. this sets the beginning of the abnormal relationship even further back. how young was liam, exactly...? well, either way he was a minor and noel was an adult, albeit a dysfunctional one.
where did noel get the idea to molest his significantly younger little brother, a minor? incest is learned behavior. so is child abuse. so who's the adult that taught noel? a coach, a teacher, a stranger or...a relative? perhaps... a parent?
let's look at his father thomas. he was clearly a man with issues. his family says he was violent and had mistresses. but has he ever been sexually inappropriate towards any of his children? why, yes, yes he has. he made extremely strange remarks about liam:
and noel 'got the worst' of his abuse, according to everyone in the family. if thomas looked at his own sons with impure thoughts he had likely experienced something similar as a child/youngster himself. according to paul g, thomas had a 'favourite' brother william who 'died in an accident':
according to peggy, thomas chose to take in his favourite brother's son (also william, 7 years old at the time of the adoption) after this mysterious accidental death:
but the little boy didn't stay with thomas's family for very long - paul g does not reveal why the little boy had to leave... if it was due to poverty, why take the child in in the first place?
theory time: william-who-died-in-an-accident had an incestuous relationship with thomas, killed himself because he was tormented by the memories of said relationship, and by killing himself triggered the following in thomas: 1) some guilt (resulting in the brief faux-adoption of the little orphan william) 2) a desire to recreate the brotherly incest situation to normalize it (if it's normal it couldn't have been the cause of the 'favourite' brother's death) 3) grooming his sons so that noel would start looking at liam (named not at all suspiciously after the deceased 'favourite brother'...) as 'desirable'. liam is probably unaware of what thomas (most likely) did to noel so he doesn't understand that what he has experienced since a very young age was not some kind of 'unusual love' - it was pay-it-forward type of anger and hatred born out of sick generational trauma.
noel has said (many times) that he was/is like a father to liam. well, yes - in more ways than the regular interview consumer realizes. clearly, noel was an honors student - which is unfortunate because in such situations it's much better to be a dropout.

No one asked but here's some trivia about those misfits:
Soleil and Lune have no official family names/surnames, but they do have families/relatives.
Soleil’s family is rich, but he doesn’t like to shot it down everyone’s throats (he would rather prefer to not be associated with his family – OG reason is they’re shitty; the Young Prince Detective version is that they’re a bunch of airheads);
Lune’s family is not that big, but she’s an only child with at least three cousins (she’s the baby cousin)
Étoile’s name being Noel is a reference to a LupPat character, Takao Noel.
The Space Trio has French space names BECAUSE I was in love with Cure Étoile and Cure Soleil’s names. In-universe they just grabbed it from google.
The trio are counterparts of the 02 kids in YPD. Soleil rivals with the boys’ traits, Lune with the girls. Étoile is an odd case in which he might be just a “Bridge” connecting both sides.
If you call Soleil by “Octo-head” he might snap and it won’t be good :V
Lune hates resorting to violence, but her only “violent” method to intimidate others is just giving them a deadly deep stare into your soul with the ire of 10 gods.
Their DigiTimeLines versions are actually 15 (Soleil), 14 (Lune) and 10 (Étoile) year olds. The YPD version has them as 17 (Soleil & Lune) and 16 (Étoile) year olds instead.
In DigiTimeLines, Étoile’s digimon partner is a purple Pokomon/Viximon named Renard. In the YPD version he’s acquainted with Miss Espimon.
Ah… I must say… Since some stuff came later while i watched Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne with a friend… Noel’s hair showing his eyes when he’s doing a 180º personality flip is based on Minazuki Yamato :V
That said, Noel is based on Beyblade’s Kenny. Soleil and Lune are based on Kamen Rider Fourze’s characters (Ryuusei and Nadeshiko).
Soleil likes action movies/TV shows with cool fights (possibly Shounen anime genre); Lune likes mystery and drama (possibly because she’s very psychic and emotional); Étoile is… fascinated with everything though. But he likes Mystery shows with magic and romance involved.
Noel’s surname being Leblanc was a recent “change”, because he was like Soleil and Lune, without one in mind. Also this is a plot point. That said, I still refer to him as either Noel and Étoile only.

Great Star Trek Rewatch - The Original Series S1
Originally posted on Twitter 16 October 2020 - 26 October 2020
Star Trek: The Original Series Season 1 is up next in my Great Star Trek Rewatch. As with ENT, DSC, and STX, mini-reviews will document my progress.
The Cage: Star Trek’s would-be pilot from 1964 suddenly has incredible relevance to today’s Star Trek: Discovery. This is one of my favorite episodes of any series, and it gave us TOS’s only two-parter. Pike goes from wounded, vulnerable leader to the man we know in DSC. 10/10
The Man Trap: A solid but unremarkable episode. I can see why NBC picked this one to be the first episode shown, but it's not nearly as strong as "The Cage" or "Where No Man Has Gone Before." The creature makeup scared me as a child and still evokes a little primal fear. 6/10
Charlie X: Adolescence is challenge aplenty, and more so when you're omnipotent. This isn't a horrible episode, but it's not great either. Thus begins TOS's frequent encounters with all-powerful beings of energies. Extra point awarded for Spock and Uhura's duet. 7/10
Where No Man Has Gone Before: Star Trek's second pilot, and a stronger entry than the previous two. Kirk's speech about humanity needing its frailties is a nice counterpart to his need for his pain in Star Trek V. 9/10
The Naked Time: This episode is famous for our heroes acting out of character, and while it is entertaining I feel like it would have been more powerful if it came a couple episodes later. 7/10
The Enemy Within: Evil twin and transporter accident episodes are a well-worn Trek trope these days, but this is the first and arguably one of the best. Shatner does some good work portraying both sides of Kirk's psyche. 7/10
Mudd's Women: I love Roger C. Carmel in the role of Harcourt Fenton Mudd.
THAT BEING SAID
I hate this episode. It's misogynistic, it's gross, it's sexist, it's everything wrong with TOS distilled into one interminable slog. This episode gets one point for Roger C. Carmel. 1/10
What Are Little Girls Made Of?: Ruk is a little scary, and the android makeup effects are decent for the mid-60s, but the premise (are duplicates with our full selves really us?) isn't fully explored. Hoping S2 of Star Trek: Picard really dives into this idea. 6/10
Miri: The titular Miri's crush on Kirk is cringey (to say the least). The duplicate Earth really has no bearing on the plot, other than a "huh, weird" reaction at the top of the episode. The "Fountain of Youth=DANGER" plot is an old Trek trope, given birth here. 5/10
Dagger of the Mind: I've always had a crush on Dr. Noel (Kirk clearly did as well). Woodward, Gregory, and Hill are excellent in their roles, and the neural neutralizer was kinda frightening to young Jonfucius. Plus, who doesn't love a good Christmas episode? 8/10
The Corbomite Maneuver: Here's an episode that should've aired first, in place of "The Man Trap". The Balok puppet is frightening, sure, but it's a classic Star Trek story of realizing the "bad guys" are merely misunderstood. Shows Kirk as a master tactician, as well. 10/10
The Menagerie, Part 1: An ingenious reuse of the unaired "The Cage" footage that establishes history for Spock and the Enterprise, thus growing the show's larger universe. 10/10
The Menagerie, Part 2: Spock's trial concludes, as we learn that the whole point was to give Pike a new life. 10/10
The Conscience of the King: Beginning Star Trek’s long association with the Bard, this one is steeped in Shakespearean tone and plot. A truly tragic ending, moody direction, and heightened performances sets this murder mystery apart from others. 9/10
Balance of Terror: When Star Trek: The Original Series fires on all cylinders, it puts out episodes like this one. A tense naval battle with a melancholy ending, this is one of the best episodes of all time. Mark Lenard is superb as the Romulan commander. 10/10
Shore Leave: Finnegan is just the worst. A surreal escapade with just a little camp. Serviceable and cromulent. 7/10
The Galileo Seven: Spock still has a lot to learn about humanity. Star Trek's first shuttlecraft mishap is still one of its best. Great visual effects (especially with the remastered edition). 8/10
The Squire of Gothos: Trelane is a rough draft for Q, and boy is most of this episode rough. The twist at the end is pretty great, however. 6/10
Arena: I've seen this one a few times, and each time, I fail to understand why the fandom adores this one. It's very slow in the middle, made up for by the unseen Gorn attack at the top and Kirk's morality play at the end. 7/10
Tomorrow is Yesterday: A light-hearted time travel yarn with a compelling guest performance, deftly told by D.C. Fontana’s script (with some obvious Gene Coon touches). One of my all-time favorites from TOS. 9/10
Court Martial: Technically the 2nd courtroom drama (“The Menagerie”), but it is the first one to use a trial to examine our heroes. Shoutout to Richard Webb’s Finney, and a court-martial panel with an Afro-Portuguese and South Asian membership - a rarity in 1960s TV. 7/10
The Return of the Archons: Kirk's first opportunity to talk a computer to death, this episode is surreal and a little creepy. However, I don't consider it to be of The Body (of outstanding episodes). 6/10
Space Seed: Gee, I wonder if we'll ever follow up on those Augments left behind on Ceti Alpha V…
Jokes (and problematic brownface aside), this is rightly a classic episode. 9/10
A Taste of Armageddon: A thoughtful meditation on human nature and war, another strong S1 entry. I can't help but feel some parallels to the Americans who have just shrugged and accepted COVID-19 as a fact of life, rather than something that can be defeated. 8/10
This Side of Paradise: A strong acting showcase for Shatner and Nimoy. Some classic philosophical banter in the tag. 8/10
The Devil in the Dark: An episode that rightly deserves the epithet "classic." Ignore the goofy Horta costume and focus on the story. Classically Star Trek through and through. 10/10
Errand of Mercy: Introducing the Klingons with John Colicos was a masterstroke. The brownface is horrendous, but the performances and the story are superb. 8/10
The Alternative Factor: The "what is the worst episode of TOS?" debates rarely mention this absolute turd. Might have something to do with being sandwiched between two pretty great episodes. "Mudd's Women" at least has Carmel's performance going for it. 0/10
The City on the Edge of Forever: It's certainly in contention for the GOAT title, but it's not my all-time favorite. Still, Harlan Ellison's script (rewritten by Roddenberry) and the performances are firing on all cylinders, and the ending is truly shattering. 9/10
Operation -- Annihilate!: This episode creeped me out as a kid, but it's a wimpy episode to end a season on. 6/10
And with that, Season 1 of TOS comes to an end in my Great Star Trek Rewatch. Final score: 7.43/10. Highest score(s): "The Cage," "The Corbomite Maneuver," "The Menagerie," "Balance of Terror," "The Devil in the Dark." Lowest score(s): “The Alternative Factor."

20 questions for fic writers
Tagged by @bbcphile 🥰🥰🥰
1. How many works do you have on AO3? site says 21! (I also have 50+ on ff.net from when I was younger, and uhhh idk how many that I shoved into my dreamwidth/livejournal never to see the light of day again.)
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 619,848
3. What fandoms do you write for? Currently Mysterious Lotus Casebook! (Although I might sneak something for Love and Redemption or Scum Villain.) I am mostly a writer in the Final Fantasy XIII fandom, although I have spent years in Code Geass and Merlin fandoms. Before that, it was Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto, Harry Potter, and Star Wars.... loads more.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Leave Me Your Starlight, Code Geass fic Nunnally-centric time-travel fix-it
Five Minutes, FFXIII fluff oneshot featuring Noel and Hope
World Enough and Time, Code Geass AU post-apocalyptic rewrite
First (and Second) Impressions, FFXIII modern babysitting AU Noel/Hope
Lost in a Moment (lost in a song), Mysterious Lotus Casebook post-canon fix-it casefic
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? I try to! I'm, um. I'm really bad at it. In that I will attempt to respond to everyone in the first few days, but then I get distracted doing/writing something else and I am so tunnel-visioned that you won't hear from me until a week later and then I feel bad about taking so long to respond. Also I am very, very bad at responding because while I love love love seeing comments, it's just happy reactions and incoherent noises from me. How do I words to translate my appreciation???
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? ...probably everything I wrote as a kid? I have very different ideas on angst nowadays, but I guess while I was writing it... between Gedächtnisse (FMA fic) and Sound of Silence (HP fic), I guess!
Newer stuff might be between The Other (FFXIII fic) and Test Subjects (FFXIII fic).
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I write a lot of fluff pieces nowadays! But overall, probably Something About December (FFXIII fic), since it's a Christmas fic or Family (FFXIII), which was written to give Sazh more support in the third game.
8. Do you get hate on fics? Once, someone pointed out my join date on the website and asked me why I was still writing fanfiction.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I have, but generally don't. Even most of my ships are closer to gen than not. I'm closer to the repulsed spectrum of ace, but I do like attempting to write all sorts of things.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Yes! Love them! I've written a good handful-- but the craziest one was when I was... 10? 11? and I wrote Orions'Ka on a notebook and when I typed it up, it was well over 60,000 words. It had absolutely everything I loved back then.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not by a person, no. By website bots, yes.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? I have had... people ask me if they could translate my fics? My answer is always yes, but I don't recall seeing it anywhere.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? I had an entire online journal with my best friend back in middle school.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship? ...MXTX ships, maybe? I don't feel particularly strongly about ships most of the time, only about characters, who I will ship around for the fun of it. But for MXTX pairings, that just doesn't feel right. They just belong together.
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? ....my old Harry Potter stuff, I'm sorry. Not a fandom I got back into again.
16. What are your writing strengths? I've been told it's characterizations! And descriptions.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Everything else. Confidence, I guess. Also energy and interest. And once I overcome those, plot.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic? ...me, or fics that do that? Because I've seen fics do that, full on paragraphs of dialogue in the original language but descriptions in English, and I don't understand. But if it's just... an important word, a statement, something the fandom would normally understand kept in its original language because there's just no good translation in English for it, then it absolutely works. Some things don't translate well, and fans usually like learning more about their canons. I personally try to keep things mostly in English nowadays, though, but I slip time to time.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Star Wars. I was in the single digits age, and wrote an introspective ficlet on Luke and Leia's feelings about how the original trilogy's ending, sitting together on Endor to watch it all burn.
20. Favorite fic you've written? ...I don't know if I have one. I either tend to be proud or hate what I've written, depending on the day, my mood, wind speeds, and cats. Currently I want to say Lost in a Moment, because I finished that recently and I had so many doubts about it so I'm proud I got through it.
Tagging... omg, anyone who still follows me all the way from FFXIII days and writes, or all the way from the Gundam Wing days gosh.
but also @seventhstrife, @rhystheceo, @teekettle, @adriannasharp @tunnelofdusk 🤭 ya'll suffer through my random selection because I know you guys are writerssss

Case 23 - Kido Joe’s strict rules of madness
[AO3 version]
Briefly, Ken and the others found Noel around Taichi’s university. But the moment his eyes encountered theirs, Noel decided to run away. Maybe he was still scared?
“Ken.”
Daisuke stopped walking and glanced at Ken, “Noel had a fragment, but he got it stolen from him. He was going to give it to me so we could keep it in a safer place and without hurting anyone.”
“... I see.”
“I told ya, Noel is a good guy. You gotta apologize to him.”
“... I will, but next time ok? I have to go home.”
And then Ken left. The group went back to their own homes after that too. But Ken wasn’t going home… He really found odd Noel Leblanc being there, right there… Casually and all of a sudden… He was kinda curious about Noel’s alibi to being there…
… But he didn’t find Noel.
… Noel Leblanc was definitely there -- Ken was musing as he returned home. The moment he arrived at the Ichijoujis residence, he realized his parents weren’t at home yet so he just walked to his room and started musing about the information gathered so far.
“... Something does not sound right…”
“Hm?” Wormmon blinked, “What’s wrong?”
“Noel confirmed he’s a distant relative of Arsène Lupin’s creator,” he was reading the messages Takeru sent to him.
It felt like Ken and Takeru had become some kind of Sherlock Holmes and Watson for this mystery. Funny though, because of the Lupin books having its own take of the most known British detective as ‘Herlock Sholmes’.
“Huh, is it?”
“Well, it can be possible… But it might mean we’re on the right path,” Ken rested the phone on the desk and looked at Wormmon, “It could mean the hypothesis that Noel Leblanc created Arsenemon is plausible.”
“Hmm…Ah, I see!” Wormmon nodded, listening to Ken’s musings quite interested.
“Maybe he sent Arsenemon to help us out. Noel was present when Hikari-san received Koushiro-san’s phone call…”
“Hmm… True true.”
“This means… Espimon might not be Noel’s only digimon partner.”
“Oh??”
“He’s Arsenemon’s partner too.”
Joe and Gomamon usually go home late, because of the activities at the medical school and his internship there. Also, they were still helping the Digimon Arena -- which changed its localization to a better place, and kept training and challenging digimon and tamers. Except this time King Shoutmon had legit real prizes for them, from their village’s cuisine and crafts after all.
“Soooooo… Do you think I can beat TeslaJellymon next time and win the all-you-can-eat ticket from Delumon’s cafe?”
“It would’ve been nice, but don’t forget we’re not there to just compete,” Joe smiled, “we’re helping to keep everyone safe and treat their wounds.”
“Of course! But… Ah… I’d like to try out the Village of the Smiles’ cuisine someday…”
They laughed lightly, walking in the streets. Until they found the eyepatched Impmon… lying on the sidewalk.
“Huh…?” they blinked.
“Help… Me…!!”
In the morning…
“Aaaah I can’t believe I’m turning 17 soon!!” Daisuke seemed pretty… excited?? “Just a few more days… Uh… 18 days!!”
“Why? Do you want to get your presents already?” Hikari giggled.
“N-nope! I mean… Takeru, Ken and you are already 17! I’m always the last one of the 1991 kids to get older!”
“True…” Takeru smiled, “I’m the oldest. You can call me ‘Takeru-san’ now”
“No way!” he pouted.
Noel was also walking with them to school, again. At least this didn’t feel tense this time.
“... Ah! Noel,” Daisuke grinned, “When is your birthday, dude?”
“... June 15, but why?” The boy looked back, directly to Daisuke and with some curiosity about what Daisuke would do with that info.
“Oh! So you’re…”
“16 years old already. I was born in 1992… I think.”
“Makes sense…”
June 15…? -- Takeru thought, but this time he kept quiet. To not make Daisuke mad at him again. But why was that date interesting for him…?
“This makes him a Gemini!” Hikari commented, “Like Miyako-san!”
“Hm? Inoue-san… is a Gemini…?”
“Yes, her birthday is on May 30th though”
“Oh…”
“Mine is December 1st!” Daisuke added, with another grin, “This means I get presents twice in a month!”
“Oh… Christmas presents too…”
“Well, there’s the ones who just give only one present for two dates” Hikari teased Daisuke with a giggle, “Right~”
“H-hey…! Don’t remind me of that!!”
The classes were completely normal for them all. But something kept bugging Takeru… Something wasn’t right… Something… was off.
Then, after class he just witnessed (by sheer accident of fate) Lune talking with Noel and Soleil:
“You shouldn’t be befriending those punks!” She said, “Remember, we have a goal.”
“...” Noel, however, did not say anything in return.
“Well… Let him be, Lune.” Soleil sighed, “Soon or later he will stop.”
“I made predictions, they won’t stay on your side at all!” she continued, “If you keep trying to be Motomiya Daisuke’s friend… You’re fated to misfortune.”
Takeru wanted to intervene and defend Daisuke, they were saying something so awful about his friend! And now saying Noel couldn’t stay friends with Daisuke?!
But Takeru’s phone rang, and he had to leave before the other three noticed him there. It was Miyako, asking him and the others to gather at the karaoke booth.
He, Daisuke and Hikari (plus their digimon) left the school and went to the usual karaoke booth. There, Miyako explained them the details:
“King Shoutmon said… Joe-senpai had gone crazy and took control over the Digimon Arena. Then, Izumi-senpai sent me a message saying he detected another fragment and a bizarre amount of data around this area here,”
She pointed to a marked area in the map of her laptop.
“Then, I went to check which area is and… Bingo. It’s the new place our friends picked to host the Digimon Arena’s activities.”
“Another fragment…” Takeru clenched his fist.
“Now they chose to attack Joe-san…” Hikari frowned, “First Sora-san, then Taichi… What are their goals now?”
“... I can’t see the pattern here” Iori commented, trying to connect the cases to each other, “Only that Arsenemon was right to warn us about the enemy targeting us now.”
“Hmm…” Ken mused.
“Did you notice something, Ken?” Tailmon asked.
“Miyako-san, please search for Ornismon data. I need to check a little detail.”
“Hmm??” They all looked at Ken, and then Miyako started checking the database about Ornismon.
“Hmmm… It is an ancient bird, possibly linked to… hatred?”
“Hatred??” Patamon repeated, “So this means…”
“They were exploiting our Crests’ power negatively” Hawkmon added, “isn’t it what you were thinking about, Ken-san?”
“Yes, as I suspected… Previously they were enabling the seven deadly sins, but now…”
“They’re goin’ after us and using our Crest power wrongly…” Armadimon mused, “So, this means… Takeru and Patamon can be targeted again, dagya?”
“... We need to catch those remaining pieces as soon as possible” Daisuke clenched his fists, then asked: “How many shards are left?? How many do we have? And How many Arsenemon have?”
“Whoa whoa, calm down Daisuke” Miyako said, “Hmmm… 7 for us, 9 for Arsenemon, and there’s only 4 left.”
Iori was recapping all the previous incidents with the fragments: “Taichi-san’s case was possibly exploiting the Crest of Courage. So if Joe-san has one…”
“Well, he was kinda acting cowardly don’t ya think?” V-mon commented, “So, what’s the opposite of Reliability?”
“Hmm… Deceitful, disloyalty, dishonesty, treachery, unsteadiness…” Wormmon answered.
“I think we shouldn’t go too literal here,” Daisuke sounded annoyed, “Let’s go stop Joe-san before things get worse.”
“Alright!”
But someone else was listening to them… And before they could catch him , the one spying on them left quickly, not even meeting with the group when they left the booth and headed to the Digimon Arena.
The Digimon Arena was covered by… water!? At least it was a bubble filled with water shielding the building. The 02 group were confused about it though -- would they need to swim to get inside? Should they just send Iori and Submarimon?
But…
Sending Iori alone sounded too troublesome…
So Ken had a strange feeling and approached the water barrier. He examined it for a second and then put his head inside it for a few minutes. Miyako and Daisuke gasped in horror and they were ready to go there when Ken took his head off the barrier and looked at them, deadpanned.
“It’s not real, we can breathe inside.”
“NEXT TIME DON’T DO SOMETHING THAT RECKLESS!!” both Miyako and Daisuke hissed.
“A-anyway… Let’s go,” Takeru tried to interrupt their fight. They all nodded and got inside the building.
And then they just met Joe and what was supposed to be Gomamon, perhaps? A Neptunemon was next to him and they watched the Arena, TeslaJellymon and other competitors like Tenno Yuu’s Sparrowmon were… writing something on paper sheets!?
“What, is this a cram school now?” Daisuke blinked “Everyone’s doing homework??”
“No, it’s not homework it’s…” Iori commented as they approached the arena. Then he just glanced at one of those sheets and realized what they were, “... a contract.”
“A contract?!” The others (but Ken) exclaimed.
Daisuke immediately took a paper from one of the kids filling it and read it, “Huh…? It’s about the arena rules?? Wait, you have to agree with ALL OF THOSE to be able to participate in the battles!?”
Ken yanked the paper from Daisuke’s hand, and the others read it over his shoulder, “... ‘No running, no using projectiles, no weapons, no shouting, no chatting, no singing, no rough play, no drinks or food, no swearing, no tossing junk, no diving’… ‘Don’t break the equipment/building, use the stairs, play safely, use slippers’... ‘Please inform your phone, Digimon Arena ID, blood type, digivice type, digimon type, digimon field, digimon category, allergies, goals’…”
“What is this, a public pool??” Daisuke squinted his eyes. (※ he clearly didn’t read it at all)
“I think this is going too far,” Iori commented.
“Joe-san, please stop!” Miyako ran towards her, but suddenly a horde of Marching Fishes came in, blowing a whistle and wearing security hats.
“DON’T RUN INSIDE THE BUILDING!!” Joe shouted from a high lifeguard chair.
“A-ah!!” Miyako stopped immediately. The others came in, but walking calmly. Then she looked at the group and whispered, “How can we do something without breaking the rules?”
“... Have Imperialdramon deck that fish-like digimon?” V-mon commented.
“That’s Neptunemon,” Tailmon clarified, “I didn’t expect to see one here…”
“The rules didn’t say we can’t fly, so…” Daisuke grabbed his digivice, “Let’s go, V-mon!”
V-mon nodded and then… “V-MON EVOLV--”
“NO SHOUTING!!” Joe ordered, shouting again; then he snapped his fingers.
“W-WHAT?!” The Marching Fishes came in swarms and then dragged Daisuke and V-mon outside -- “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaah, helppppp…!!” they shouted until their voices faded. Then the fishes left them outside the building.
Daisuke and V-mon tried to get inside, but… no success. Now the barrier was made of water and they couldn’t dive into it -- “DARN IT!!” Daisuke punched the barrier.
The other five couldn’t even react to that… Oh no, they’re in real serious trouble. If they can’t snatch the shard from Joe and Gomamon…
“Joe-san,” Hikari frowned, and then walked calmly there, “Why are you doing this?? Weren’t you helping King Shoutmon and TeslaJellymon to get stronger? Weren’t you here because you wanted to help the contestants to not get badly hurt??”
“Those fights ARE dangerous, so I put an end on them. If they follow the rules, no one will be hurt. I’m doing it for them, but I won’t allow anyone to disobey my rules.”
“That’s wrong!” she snapped, but still not raising her voice, “You know deep down that you’re setting too many rules to the point there’s no fun anymore! Yes, you’re preventing someone from getting hurt, but you’re also not allowing no one to do anything!!”
“You’re like them, disobeying norms and running amok in this place!”
“Aren’t you disobeying the rules too, at this point?” Iori said, deadpanned.
“H-huh?!”
“You clearly said ‘No shouting’ while shouting,” Takeru commented.
“Kh--!!”
“He also shouted when telling Miyako-san to not run too,” Wormmon nodded.
“The rules say no weapons, but Neptunemon is wielding that big spear right next to you,” Patamon added with a shrug.
“We can do those things! We’re keeping this place in order!!” Neptunemon hissed.
“That’s a lie, you just want to drop a ton of rules on us to ruin the fun” Miyako squinted her eyes, “How can the Digimon Arena work if you can’t even battle?!”
“Yeah,” Armadimon wagged his paw, “Bet y’all can’t beat us fair and square here, dagya.”
“You all are--!!”
“Checkmate, Joe-senpai” Ken smirked, “You know we’re right. You broke the same rules you made.”
“GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!! I… I…!!!”
“Should we go retrieve the fragment from him now?” Hawkmon asked them.
“Mhm! Miyako-san!” Hikari grabbed her D-3.
“Ok!”
Hawkmon evolves to… Aquilamon!Tailmon!Jogress Evolution! Silphymon!!
Silphymon then used their visor to pinpoint where the shard was, so they could get it from Joe-or-Gomamon. They identified it as the whistle on Joe’s necklace.
“There” Silphymon shouted, but Neptunemon attacked. They dodged the spear and stared at the opponent, “Miyako-san, The Digimental fragment is the whistle” They (Aquilamon side) said.
“I won’t let you get him and ruin our dominion!”
“Since Joe-san broke the rules…” Takeru nodded, then used the Digimental of Hope to evolve Patamon into Pegasusmon.
“No!!” Neptunemon shouted, and then threw the spear at the boy and Pegasusmon. Everything was starting to get extremely BAD when…
“Un, deux, trois~”
Someone snapped the fingers and teleported Takeru & Pegasusmon out of the range of the spear.
“WHAT?!” everyone exclaimed.
“C'est l'heure du spectacle” Arsenemon appeared in the middle of the arena, “ Pardon, I’ve been appearing too early recently~”
“Arsenemon!!”
“STOP RIGHT THEREEEEEEEEEEEEE!!” Daisuke and V-mon came in, running after they had been unblocked from the barrier.
“Oh, my favorite Chosen Detective was outside this time,” then he snapped his fingers and a calling card popped in front of Daisuke, which was caught by the boy:
Hello, mon ami. I’m here to steal the wicked fragment from Kido Joe. Enjoy the show~
“I won’t sit and let you steal it!” Daisuke growled.
Then suddenly, Kido Joe started to laugh. Quite scary, to be honest.
“Ah, you want this?” Joe showed them the whistle in his hand, “Well, I’ll give you if you could beat Neptunemon.”
“?!?”
“What? Do you think I’m not a trustworthy person?”
“Ken… We have to use Imperialdramon right now” Daisuke whispered to the other, who nodded in response.
“Then I will--” But suddenly a robotic arm sneaked in and stole the whistle from Jou’s hand “W-WHAT!? HOW?!”
“You’re all bark but no talk!” Miss Espimon appeared from the ceiling, “Now go back to normal!!”
“… He let it be caught,” Armadimon blinked.
“?!?!?! HOW COULD YOU--”
“He might not wake up like this. So allow me to help you, fine gentleman…” Arsenemon shrugged, “Oeil de Chat” he snapped his fingers and a small black cat with green eyes magically popped in front of Joe, having the glowing cat eyes synchronize with Joe’s and then making the man fall asleep.
“I… um… Sleepy…” Joe fell asleep, and with this Gomamon returned to his original form.
“H-huh?!” Gomamon blinked, “Ah I’m back to normal…?”
“ You. tried. to. kill. us.” Pegasusmon appeared behind Gomamon with a deadly glare. He was already charging his Silver Blaze when Takeru patted the back of his head.
“GAAHAHAHAAAA SORRY SORRY SORRY!! 💦” Gomamon hid behind Daisuke.
Daisuke took Gomamon with his two hands and lifted the digimon, “So, you we’re really into it huh…”
“I’m soooooooooorry!! That Impmon inserted one of those shards on Joe and it also corrupted me!!”
Everyone stared at Gomamon, “Suspicious…”
“D-do you really think I’d try to hurt y’all!? I’m a good digimon!! B-Besides… There was something else that night…”
“Huh?”
“A pair of eyes… They definitely cough Joe and me into some hypnosis spell… I recognized it… It was… Dracumon’s eyes.”
“Dracumon?” The kids and the digimon exclaimed, but not Ken or Tailmon (neither Epimon and Arsenemon) (※ Silphymon jogress has undone and both Tailmon and Hawkmon were back to adult and child forms, respectively)
“Dracumon… that name…” Ken mused, “It surely sounds familiar…”
“Dracumon are vampire-like digimon, probably one of Vamdemon’s old acquaintances” Tailmon explained, “Might be… related to… That one digimon we met before…”
“Hmm…”
“Ugh… I felt like I had a hangover…” Joe woke up, kinda dizzy though… “But I didn’t drink…”
“Are you okay now, Joe-san?” Hikari asked him.
“Yeah… Thank you guys… And sorry everyone…”
“Oh don’t worry you’re fine now right, Big J??” TeslaJellymon grinned, “we gotta catch those two digimon and snap their necks!!”
“No neck snapping!” Daisuke said, then he looked around and… “GAH, ARSENEMON AND ESPIMON ARE GONE!!”
Ken didn’t mind the lost fragment though… He was mostly interested in the fact that Espimon came out of nowhere. It only reinforced his theories that Arsenemon is linked to Noel, as partner or as some accomplice.
As for now, Arsenemon has acquired the 10th shard, while Team 02 has only 7. Only 3 are yet to be found, or to be used by Impmon and Dracumon.
